Andre Salmon, poet, art critic and writer met the young, then unknown poet Guillaume Apollinaire...In 1904 he moved into the Bateau-Lavoir and lived there with Picasso, Max Jacob, and Apollinaire.
Robert Guiette was a poet and professor of medieval French literature at the University of Ghent. He forged lasting friendships with Fernand Léger, Blaise Cendrars, André Salmon, Jules Romains, and Max Jacob, to whom he later dedicated a major monograph ( La Vie de Max Jacob , 1976).
